Subspecies in India
There are six subspecies namely, A. c. collaris, A. c. albogularis, A. c. leucolaemus, A. c. dictator, A. c. consul, and A. c. hoevenii. A. c. collaris (from E. Himalayan: Greater Hog Badger), A. c. albogularis (Northern Hog Badger), A. c. hoevenii (Sumatran Hog Badger) are treated as separate species by some taxonomists.

This is an uncommon species. In India, it is found in NE Indian states like, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura etc. Nothing much is known about this specues apart from It being a diurnal and omnivorous species.
Conservation Status:
This species is listed as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
According to IUCN Red list assessment, population of this species is decreasing all over its range. There are no estimates of its population available. There are region-wise anecdotal presence-absence records that vary greately. Major threat to its occurrence come from habitat loss and fragmentation and occassional trapping/hunting.
