Subspecies in India
Arunachal Macaque is the most recently described primate species of India. It was once thought to be a new subspecies of Tibetan Macaque (Macaca thibetana) but now recognized as a distinct species. Nevertheless, some researchers still suggest this to be a subspecies of Assam Macaque (M. assamensis). As of now it is treated as a distinct species.
This species is listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).

Macaca munzala - Arunachal Macaque
Arunachal Macaque quite uncommon and has a fairly restricted distribution. It is currently found in Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan. Very little is knonw about its habits.
Conservation Status: This species is listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
According to IUCN Red List assessment population of this species is declining. It is in greater threat mainly because of its highly restricted distribution. Current population estimate of this species is 250 to 600 individuals surviving in the wild. Threat to its survival comes from habitat loss owing to expansion of agriculture, mining and other development. It is also observed that this species may raid crops and in return faces retaliatory killing.
