Very little is known about this species. It is restricted to smaller locality in Bhutan, Nepal and adjoining parts of India. It is distributed at the elevations between 1500 and 3000 m. It is a nocturnal species that dwells in canopy. It is a herbivorous species that feeds mainly on leaves, soft parts of bark and fruits. It is likely to be a solitary species, nevertheless, more studies will be required to confirm many such anecdotes.

This species is listed as Near Threatened in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
According to IUCN Red List assessment, its population is declining. There are, however, no population estimates available. It is more vulnerable as its population is restricted to relatively smaller locality. The threats to its existence are mainly anthropogenic such as commercial development, logging, deforestation, urbanization, mining and occasional hunting.
