Terai Langur is native to northern India, Bhutan and Nepal. It is distributed at higher altitute up to 1600 m in Himalayan foothills, Siwalik hills. It is mainly arboreal and inhabits moist deciduous forests. It largely forages on leaves and fruits of trees present in its range.

This species is listed as Near Threatened in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/)


According IUCN Red List assessment population of this species is decreasing. Although, its population size is not estimated, it is belived that this species has a very patchy distribution. Threat to its survival mainly come from habitat fragmentation due to human encroachment in its native range for agriculture, residential and commercial development.
