This is an endemic species restricted to small localities in extreme southern Western Ghats of Karnataka and Kerala. There is nothing much known about this species. It is semi-arboreal that makes nests using dry grassblades.
This species is listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
According to IUCN Red List assessment, population of this species is fragmented and decreasing. There are no estimates of its population available except its presence/absence reports. Threat to its population mainly come from habitat loss and fragmentation due to logging and agriculture; and trapping.
