This species is listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/). According to IUCN Red List assessment, population of this species maybe decreasing. There is nothing much know about its population except that it is extinct from its type locality on Car Nicobar and now exists only as a fragmented population on 6 other islands in Nicobar. Major threats to its survival come from habitat loss due to anthropogenic and natural causes.
