Ovis orientalis Gmelin, 1774 - Ladakh Urial

This species has a wide range of distribution. There are several subspecies of Ovis orientalis, out of which Ladakh Urial could be a separate subspecies. It has also been speculated that the Western Himalayan populations are a separate species, but there is no final taxonomic verdict on this issue.

Capra falconeri Wagner, 1839 - Markhor

There are 3 to 5 subspecies recognized for this species viz. C. f. falconeri (Astor or Flare-horned Markhor), C. f. heptneri (Bukharan Markhor), C. f. megaceros (Kabul or Straight-horned Markhor), C. f. cashmiriensis (Kashmir Markhor), C. f. jerdoni (Suleiman Markhor). Out of these, cashmiriensis and jerdoni are debated for their existence (claiming that being just a population variation and not separate subspecies) or merging into one subspecies.
